Universities respond to COVID-19 pandemic with suspended entrance requirements, event cancellations

Universities in the Pine Belt continue to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University have moved their summer classes to online formats. Spring classes are already meeting in these formats.

State health officials: Six COVID-19 cases in Mississippi, including three in Forrest Co.

There are now six presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi, including three cases in Forrest County, according to state health officials.

The first Forrest County case was identified Wednesday night, and the two additional cases in the county were announced Friday.

Starting pitching leads Southern Miss to doubleheader sweep Friday

HATTIESBURG – Unlike in the two games last weekend, starting pitching was not an issue Friday.

On the backs of Walker Powell and Stevie Powers, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles swept a doubleheader with Holy Cross Friday with 4-1 and 5-3 wins. The two combined for 12 strong innings, two earned runs, 12 strikeouts and only one walk.
