Son of former sheriff facing simple assault charges

The son of former Forrest County Sheriff Billy McGee will soon appear in court to face a charge of assault by attempt of physical menace with fear or threat/simple assault.

According to documents from Hattiesburg Police Department and Hattiesburg Municipal Court, Forrest McGee is scheduled to come before the court on Feb. 12.

Storm is reminder of 2014 damage

On Tuesday the smell of fresh-cut pine had nothing to do with the impending Christmas holidays, but rather a fast-moving storm that caused extensive damage in the Sumrall area Monday night. It was much like Sumrall residents had experienced five years ago when a storm front moved through the area at Christmastime causing extensive damage.

Faculty, staff, students raise over $6K for Texas school district

Faculty, staff and students in Petal School District have been pinching pennies lately as a way to pay it forward to other districts affected by hurricanes.

After Petal was hit by a tornado in January, numerous school districts reached out to Petal School District to offer assistance.
