Forrest Co. elects new sheriff, supervisor; Lamar Co. retains sheriff, judges

Voters in Forrest County chose a new sheriff and supervisor during Tuesday's general election, while the three opposed local candidates in Lamar County - including sheriff and two justice court judges - will remain in their positions.

Forrest County saw a voter turnout of 20,046, with 17,434 voters casting a ballot in Lamar County.

Last May, Joe Hartfield was on top of the world. The Hattiesburg Tigers had just clinched the school’s first state baseball championship since 2006, and it was the first title of Hartfield’s head-coaching career. Some know the pain he has dealt with during the last couple of years, but most don’t know the whole truth.


A 1,000-point club member, Hudson signs with PRCC

PURVIS – Senior Kennedy Hudson joined rare company earlier this season by eclipsing the 1,000-point club in her Lady Tornadoes career, but her final five points were a little tougher to get than the first 995.

“(Joining the 1,000-point club) showed that the hard work over the past three years had paid off,” Hudson said.
