The MHSAA high school baseball playoffs began Friday and there were five teams in our coverage area that competed. Six total teams are playing in the postseason, but Oak Grove is the lone team with a bye into the second round.

A Family Man: Southern Miss Social Work’s Tim Rehner built relationships, shaped lives

Tim Rehner knew only one soul in Mississippi when he moved here, but he has spent 25½ years in Hattiesburg and Petal surrounded by family.

First there are his wife, Kay, and daughters Kendra, Kathryn and Karolyne. Eventually, two sons-in-law and two grandsons followed, and now there is a third son-in-law-in-waiting. 


Newly hired PCS basketball coach Sherer balances coaching and National Guard duties

Former Presbyterian Christian basketball coach Josh Dorman was in an unusual position after announcing he was stepping away from his positions as coach and athletics director. Along with Dr. Allen Smithers, PCS’ Headmaster, Dorman got to help pick his successor.

Fourteen distinguished alumni of Hattiesburg’s city schools will be inducted into the inaugural HPSD Foundation Hall of Fame during a two-day event Oct. 4-5.

Inductees for the first-ever Hattiesburg Hall of Fame class come from the fields of business, politics, education, medicine, entertainment, journalism and sports.
