Early Learning Collaborative: 1,200 HPSD students to benefit from $2.1M grant

The Hattiesburg Public School District has been awarded $2.1 million in grant funding from the Mississippi Department of Education’s Early Learning Collaborative.

The funding was announced during a news conference Jan.7 at the district’s Harper-Wallin Family Education Center on Forrest Street. 



Utroksa first to qualify for District 101 seat

Steven Utroska, a small business owner in Hattiesburg, has qualified to seek the Mississippi House District 101 position, which was vacated when former representative Brad Touchstone was elected Nov. 6 as the new Lamar County Court Judge. Utroska serves on the executive committee that helped create the Pinebelt Blueway on the Leaf River.

Faculty, staff and students in Petal School District have been pinching pennies lately as a way to pay it forward to other districts affected by hurricanes.

After Petal was hit by a tornado in January, numerous school districts reached out to Petal School District to offer assistance.
