Sumrall defeats FCAHS 9-0 as errors plague Aggies

SUMRALL – As the saying goes, “When it rains, it pours.” 

That was the case for Forrest County Agricultural, as the Aggies committed seven errors in a must-win game to get into the playoffs. Despite narrowly falling short on Thursday to Sumrall 5-2, the errors helped the Bobcats come away with a 9-0 win on a wet Friday night.

Decision in medical marijuana case could be coming shortly

The Mississippi Supreme Court will soon decide the fate of the state’s medical marijuana program and the ballot initiative process after a busy day of oral arguments Wednesday.

Decisions are issued by the court every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and Chief Justice Michael Randolph promised a quick decision in the case.

Lamar Co. school officials approve carpet at Lumberton Elementary; discuss COVID numbers

The Lamar County School District Board of Trustees recently approved the acceptance of a $100,681 bid to replace the carpet at Lumberton Elementary School with new tile flooring.

The decision was made at the April 12 school board meeting, where board members agreed to pull up the carpet because of allergy and air quality concerns.

For the first time of the 2021 season, Southern Miss dropped its first weekend series to Louisiana Tech after falling short in an 8-7 slugfest on Sunday.

It was a tale of two games for Southern Miss baseball's first conference doubleheader of the season, as the Golden Eagles split the Saturday games against Louisiana Tech. 

After having an offensive explosion with a 14-6 win in the day's first game, the Golden Eagles were then shutout by Louisiana Tech 4-0.

Before the start of the high school baseball season, Sumrall coach Andy Davis knew that his pitching staff had a chance to be special. After a 6-0 win over Greene County on Thursday night, the Bobcats' staff has now thrown three straight shutout games and has kept opponents off the scoreboard for 24 consecutive innings.
