Mississippi High School Football
Every week during the football season, Camal Petro and Andrew Abadie will hop on Facebook Live to preview the week’s slate of games. With Week 7 of high school football this week, we break down the all five matchups Friday night.
On this week’s episode of The PineBeltSPORTS Podcast, Nevil Barr joins the show as the Oak Grove-Petal game looms Friday. He coached on both sides of the rivalry and discusses what it was like, as well as his time at both schools.
The Purvis Tornadoes have owned the series with the Sumrall Bobcats, and it hasn’t been close. Purvis has a 10-game winning streak over its Highway 589 rival, and the two will open up Region 7-4A play Friday night in Sumrall.
It hasn’t happened too often this season, but the Hattiesburg Tigers showed they were human last Friday at Gautier. They trailed after one quarter of play for the first time this season. Entering the game, Hattiesburg had only fallen behind an opponent for less than three minutes of game time through the four games prior.
Not much has changed for our local teams, but the Sumrall Bobcats gain more votes in the 4A Poll.
With Oak Grove’s top two wide receivers, senior Kevin Barnett and junior Brandon Hayes, out due to injuries, the Warriors took a ‘next man up mentality’ in their 39-7 win over George County Friday night.
SEMINARY – On Friday night in Seminary, the Purvis Tornadoes showed some bright spots on both sides of the ball. But, they also had some mistakes.
In the end, the Seminary Bulldogs were too much for the Tornadoes, beating them 42-21 to drop Purvis to 1-4 on the season.
