Some of the Pine Belt’s best basketball players met on the court Tuesday night as Petal and Hattiesburg collided. Petal’s Treylan Smith and Caleb McGill, and Hattiesburg’s Cameron Brown combined for 85 points in the affair as Petal came away with an 86-75 win over Hattiesburg.
Trailing 16-0 and driving inside West Jones’ 30-yard line, Hattiesburg looked to spark a comeback. However, West Jones’ Antonie Kirk picked off Hattiesburg quarterback Jarod Conner and scored on a 63-yard pick-6 to give the Mustangs a 23-0 lead heading into halftime.

The undefeated Hattiesburg Tigers continued their march through the 2018 season with a dominating 52-6 win over Brookhaven in the first round of the 5A playoffs. The competition is supposed to get stiffer this time of year, but the Tigers’ rushing attack had no problem with the Panthers Friday night.
