ARREST: Hattiesburg Police arrested Decantra Deloach, 35, of Hattiesburg, in connection with a shooting that occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021 at the Pine Haven Apartments in the 500 block of William Carey Parkway. Deloach is charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
Investigators determined that the incident occurred after an ongoing dispute between juveniles led to a fight breaking out among a group of adult females. Two women were injured in the altercation and treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
Deloach is booked in the Forrest County Jail.
FIRE: A house fire broke out around 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, in the 1400 block of Main Street.
Debra Harper-Lancaster, 64, was killed in the fire, and one unnamed indivudual escaped the burning building before it was engulfed. The Hattiesburg Fire Department was able to contain the flames after arriving on the scene.
Lisa Klem, Forrest County Deputy Coroner, said that the Mississippi State Crime Lab will perform a routine autopsy on Harper-Lancaster.
As is also routine in fatal fires, the incident is under investigation by the State Fire Marshals Office and Hattiesburg Police Department. No official cause has been announced at this time.
ARREST: Hattiesburg Police arrested David Knight, 30, of Hattiesburg, on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, in the 800 block of Timothy Lane.
Knight is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, enhanced penalty for possession of a firearm and enhanced penalty for possession in proximity of a church. In total, police seized two weapons and 63 doses of oxycodone from Knight’s person and vehicle.
Knight is booked into the Forrest County Jail.
JOB OPENING: The Forrest County Sheriff’s Office announced they are hiring several nursing positions for the Forrest County Detention Center. These positions will be fulfilled through medical contractor, Southern Health Partners.
Immediate openings are available for LPN (full-time, evening shifts), LPN (part-time) and RN (full-time, dayshift).
The Sheriff’s Office said that Southern Health Partners offer competitive pay and benefit packages that include insurance and paid time off.
