More than a dozen paratroopers from the Army's 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, were injured Wednesday night at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center when they missed their intendend drop zone during a training exercise.
Nineteen teachers across south Mississippi – including one in Forrest County, four in Hattiesburg, one in Petal and three in Lamar County – are the recipients of approximately $12,000 in Environmental Education Grants from Mississippi Power earmarked for equipment, supplies and projects for environmental science projects.
The city of Petal will be receiving some help from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency after recent flooding issues, as MEMA will reimburse the city for most of the $200,000 in estimated cost of repairs necessitated after Winter Storm Eboni brought massive rainfall to the area late last month.
Of the more than 160 school districts across Mississippi, the Petal and Lamar County school districts were two of only 18 throughout the state to receive an “A” designation on last year school year’s Mississippi Accountability Model.
Unofficial results from the 2017-18 statewide accountability ratings, released last week by the Mississippi Department of Education, show that two area school districts are still ranked in the top 10 in the state.
