Sumrall Mayor Heath Sumrall is hoping to convince city leaders to join the Main Street Program after hearing about the movement at the Mississippi Municipal League’s 87th annual conference last month in Biloxi.
The Hattiesburg City Council received the audited financial statements for Fiscal Year 2016 at a special-called meeting last week at City Hall. The auditing firm that finished the FY2016 report started worked on Fiscal Year 2017’s statements, which would bring the Hub City’s financial status up to date.
With a majority of sympathetic listeners, experts and advocates of decriminalizing simple marijuana possession spoke out Monday night at a town hall meeting at the Hattiesburg Train Depot. Ward 2 Councilwoman Deborah Delgado, who has been studying the issue for the past two months, called the meeting.
Hattiesburg police and fire full-time employees will have the opportunity to complete their undergraduate education at the University of Southern Mississippi with a pilot program beginning with police officers in the upcoming semester.
