Critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter James McMurtry is returning to the Hub City for a performance at The Thirsty Hippo on Saturday, Jan. 25.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Show begins at 8 p.m. Admission is limited to 18 and over, unless accompanied by a guardian.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the show.
The 9th Annual Caerus Mardi Gras Parade will roll at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.
Spectators are invited to come early, and “come hungry,” according to Melissa Saucier of Keith’s Superstores, sponsors of the annual event.
“Expect to see and feel the magic of Mardi Gras as beads and trinkets rain down over the crowds,” she said.
Loren Wade was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Petal for 2021 at the program held Saturday, Jan. 11 at Petal High School.
Wade also received the overall award for self-expression and was winner of the “Be Your Best Self Essay,” award.
Nine young women will contend for cash scholarships and other prizes through competition areas of self-expression, fitness, talent, scholastics and a panel interview on Saturday, January 11 at the Petal High School Performing Arts Center.
The Southeast Tourism Society has named FestivalSouth as one of the STS Top 20 Events in the Southeast for June 2020.
This year’s festival starts the end of May and includes all of June. The STS Top 20 Festival and Event Awards have highlighted programs around the Southeast since 1985.

For the second year in a row, the Downtown Hattiesburg Association will feature a nationally-recognized keynote speaker for its annual meeting.
The Hattiesburg 2020 Amateur Photography Competition and Exhibition will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center.
There is an adult and children’s division with $50 prize awards. Categories include nature, animals, people, landscape and design.
