HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss football program on Sunday announced it has accepted an invitation to participate in the 42nd Walk-On’s Independence Bowl.
It’s Thanksgiving week, but don’t expect the Southern Miss football team to get into any kind of celebratory mood before Saturday. And even that is not a sure thing.
The Golden Eagles (7-4 overall, 5-2 Conference USA) play at Marshall (7-4, 4-3) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in their final regular-season game of 2017.
HATTIESBURG – It hasn’t happened since 1967, but redshirt senior Kelsey Douglas did it Saturday afternoon against the Charlotte 49ers. Douglas returned two interceptions for touchdowns in a 66-21 win for the Golden Eagles, and the last time that happened for USM was Nov. 11, 1967, against Louisiana Tech.
Fans get a last chance to watch the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at home this season on Saturday afternoon, when the Charlotte 49ers invade M.M. Roberts Stadium at 2 p.m.
It will be Senior Day for 23 players, most of whom have started at least once in their USM careers.
