USM' Parks enjoys solid outing Saturday after early-season injury

By FROM SOUTHERN MISS,

HATTIESBURG Southern Miss redshirt junior running back Tez Parks enjoyed a bit of a breakout game in last Saturday’s 24-0 shutout of UTEP.

Parks, the LaGrange, Ga., native, missed the first three games with an injury and had seen limited duty in his first two games back with 17 yards on five carries.

Parks, though, finally got his number called against the Miners and he responded by registering a season-high 43 yards on eight carries, while also catching a pass for 22 yards to help solidify the Golden Eagle offense in the victory.

“It feels like I broke out (last Saturday), but I haven’t had the game that I have wanted yet,” said Parks. “Give credit to the offensive line for giving me that chance to breakout and the coaches for the opportunity to get back on the field.”

His talents were not just limited to his offensive prowess, as he also enjoyed a standout performance on the squad’s special teams. While he collected a lone tackle, he made himself known with some big hits on coverage teams.

Parks now looks to improve on his best game of the year this week when the Golden Eagles travel to Ruston, La., to face C-USA West foe Louisiana Tech. Game time is set for 6 p.m., from Joe Aillet Stadium and can be seen on Stadium (THIS TV, channel 219 on Comcast in Hattiesburg as well as online at watchstadium.com).
