On this week’s episode of The PineBeltSPORTS Podcast, two Hattiesburg football players sit down with sports editor Camal Petro for interviews, as well as breakdowns of other area games.
Friday’s win over Lawrence County was the type of offensive output Purvis coach Perry Wheat has been wanting to see for all season. The Tornadoes racked 455 total yards of offense, which was led by a ground attack that had 353 yards.
Not much changed in this week’s Associated Press Prep Poll, as the Hattiesburg remains the only team in the area ranked in Overall Top 10 at No. 5. Petal is also receiving a vote in the poll, but it’s 15 votes behind No. 10 East Central.
Lumberton dropped from T-4 to sitting alone at No. 5 in the 1A poll, too.
On this week’s episode of The PineBeltSPORTS Podcast Lumberton coach Zach Jones and Petal wide receiver Trent Williams join the show for separate interview.
If Purvis coach Perry Wheat had a do-over in last Friday’s loss at Greene County, he would have gone for a 2-point conversion sometime during the four-overtime contest. Believe it or not, in his 40-plus years as a head coach, that was the first time he coached in a game that went to four overtimes.
On this week’s episode of The PineBeltSPORTS Podcast, sports editor Camal Petro sits down with Petal head coach Marcus Boyles. They discuss last week’s win over Oak Grove, Boyles’ team and this week’s matchup with Brandon.
After the break, the other seven contests featuring area teams are analyzed.
LEAKSVILLE – It might be Purvis versus Greene County Friday, but there’s another interesting storyline to the game.
The Tornadoes offense will match up with a familiar face, and no, it’s not a player. Greene County defensive coordinator Jacob Aycock spent time in Purvis, and he’s acquainted with Purvis’ offensive personnel.
PURVIS – Like two prizefighters trying to land the final blow, Purvis landed the fatal blow with 11 seconds to play when quarterback Ty Howell bobbed and weaved behind his offensive line to score a 4-yard touchdown for the 35-28 victory over the Sumrall Bobcats at home.
On this week’s episode of the PineBeltSPORTS Podcast, sports editor Camal Petro discusses the two biggest matchups in the area – Petal-Oak Grove and Sumrall-Purvis.
The beginning of the show is dominated with Petal-Oak Grove, and interviews from both Petal and Oak Grove coaches are played.
