One killed in Forrest County shooting
One man died of gunshot wounds received in a Tuesday afternoon shootout on the outskirts of Petal.
A second man, Ronnie Pittman, is in custody as a suspect in the shooting.
Forrest County Sheriff deputies received a 911 call at around 3:15 p.m. at 4 Eastover Boulevard. The caller reported a white male had been shot.
Deputy Mark Stinson, one of the first responders to the scene, said they arrived to find one white male lying in the driveway of a home with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Stinson said the man was immediately transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment, where he subsequently died. Stinson said a handgun, believed to be the weapon used in the fatal shooting, was recovered at the scene.
A wrecker was later called to the scene to transport a red Ford Ranger pickup from the scene for processing by the Hattiesburg Police Department Crime Scene Unit. A bullet hole was visible in the driver's side door.
Eastover Boulevard is located along Macedonia Road, east of Petal. The incident took place outside the Petal city limits.
