The upward trajectory since the winless 2014 has continued to this season, too, and the Sumrall Bobcats are heading to the playoffs for the first since 2012. They clinched the berth with a 27-13 over Forrest County AHS last week, and Sumrall coach Shannon White said he was really proud of his team in the second half.
HATTIESBURG – Vancleave flashed its skill Tuesday night in the second round of the Class II playoffs, as it took down Hattiesburg in straight sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-20) to advance to the semifinals at Mississippi State Thursday.
The Lady Tigers’ season comes to an end with an 18-6 overall record.
Entering the final week of the regular season, Purvis could find itself anywhere from the third seed in the 4A playoffs or miss out entirely. Depending on what goes on in the Sumrall-Greene County, and how Purvis’ matchup with FCAHS plays out, a lot is still undecided in Region 7-4A.
The Sacred Heart Crusaders were officially eliminated from making a return trip to the 1A playoffs last week, but don’t tell that to the Sacred Heart seniors who are playing in their final two games this week and next week. They’re still playing their hearts out, according to Sacred Heart head coach Lonny Schraeder.
I’m not breaking any news here, but the Hattiesburg Tigers are good. So good, they’re now the clear favorite to win the 5A South and take a trip to Oxford for the state championship. There’s still a long way to go, though, but a record of 9-0 overall and 5-0 in Region 4-5A speaks for itself.
